Reading, Writing, and Dyslexia Evaluations and Therapy
Students can make incredible gains in reading and writing skills with the right therapy!
It’s heartbreaking to see a student struggling with literacy skills and falling behind in school. Discover how reading therapy can give your child the tools to catch up.
How I evaluate reading and writing skills:
Areas tested. My reading assessment covers the following areas: phonological awareness, memory and rapid naming, decoding and word attack skills, vocabulary, reading fluency, spelling, written language, and reading comprehension.
Dyslexia diagnosis. I can diagnose or rule out dyslexia with my reading assessment. For students who already have a diagnosis, I will review their previous testing. If the testing results are complete, I can just do a short diagnostic session to determine treatment goals.
Other reading challenges. Some students may need treatment for reading, writing, or spelling deficits without meeting the criteria for a diagnosis of dyslexia.
How I can help with reading and writing:
Structured, systematic, and multi-sensory approach. My training is based on principles the International Dyslexia Association endorses, which as a whole are known as structured literacy. I have extensive coursework and experience using the most current, research-based methods of reading instruction, including speech-to-print methods.
Writing therapy. I also systematically teach the spelling and writing process to support academic success.
Individualized treatment. My approach is not one-size-fits all. Depending on the goals, I draw from a variety of evidence-based reading programs because every student has a unique profile of strengths and weaknesses.
I can help adults, too!
It’s never too late to learn to read or to boost reading and writing skills!
